About This Game

Released in Japan as Kage and known in the West as Shadow of the Ninja (Blue Shadow in Europe), this is Natsume's tightest ninja action game. Two players — Hayate and Kaede — climb, slash and grapple through a futuristic Empire's fortress on a mission to stop Emperor Garuda.

Three weapons define the run: a sword with a short reach and high damage, a chain-sickle that can attack diagonally or straight up, and shuriken for range. Weapons are upgraded by holding down the attack button to charge a spinning power shot, and the game supports full two-player co-op — which is also its main source of chaos, since a charged shot will happily destroy your partner.

  • Three weapons (sword, chain-sickle, shuriken) swapable at any time
  • Charge attacks that upgrade each weapon's power
  • Two-player simultaneous co-op with friendly fire
  • Demanding boss fights and vertical fortress stages

Tips & Strategy

The chain-sickle is your vertical answer

Holding up or down while attacking with the chain-sickle strikes directly above or below you. That makes it the only reliable weapon against enemies standing on ledges and ceiling-mounted gun pods you cannot reach with the sword.

Charge, but do not hold it forever

The spinning charge shot clears groups and damages bosses, but you cannot move at full speed while charging. Charge during safe stretches, release as you reach the next screen, then drop back to the sword for close work.

Co-op spacing matters more than damage

Charged shots destroy your partner instantly. In two-player runs agree on lanes — the sword user takes point while the shuriken player covers from behind — and never fire a charge shot into an occupied screen.
