How to Beat Malenia, Blade of Miquella

Oct 2, 2026 · VaultGames Editorial · Elden Ring

Malenia punishes two habits above all others: trading hits and panicking. She heals a portion of the damage she deals even when you block, so every exchange is a net loss for you. Fight her the opposite way you fought the rest of the game — do not stand and trade, do not block heavy combos, and do not commit to a full combo unless she is staggered or in a recovery animation.

Waterfowl Dance is the attack that decides most attempts. The safest answer is distance: sprint away from her the moment she jumps, because the first flurry tracks a long way. Once the second pass begins she no longer tracks as aggressively, so roll through it, then roll again as the third burst lands. If you are caught at close range when she leaps, roll late and diagonally rather than spamming dodge — four panicked rolls in a row will always eat the final hit. Practise this one attack deliberately; it is a memorisation check, not a reaction test.

For damage, apply Scarlet Rot or bleed if you have it, use a Spirit Ash summon such as the Mimic Tear to split her attention, and punish only after her longer combos. She is also surprisingly vulnerable to parries: three successful parries in a row break her stance and open a critical hit. In phase two she gains a Scarlet Rot explosion and clone attacks, so keep a cleanse handy and treat the rot as a timer. Stay calm, take one punish at a time, and the fight becomes a rhythm rather than a wall.
