Sekiro: No Defeat Anime Premieres in Japan

Sep 4, 2026 · VaultGames Editorial · Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro: No Defeat, the official anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, premiered in Japan on 4 September 2026 with a three-week theatrical run before its wider release. The project was announced at Gamescom on 20 August 2025, with a second trailer shown at SXSW in March 2026.

Produced by ARCH with animation by Qzil.la and Kadokawa on the production committee, the series retells the game's Sengoku-era story in the Ashina region. The production committee confirmed the anime is entirely hand-drawn 2D animation, with no generative AI used in its creation.

Crunchyroll holds worldwide streaming rights outside Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus. The adaptation expands on Sword Saint Isshin Ashina's legacy and Genichiro Ashina's use of forbidden powers — material the game largely conveyed through item descriptions and environmental storytelling.
