About This Game

Captain Commando is Capcom's superhero take on the beat 'em up, set in the crime-ridden 'Metro City' of the year 2026. The Commando Team is four strong: Captain Commando himself, ninja Mack the Knife, the sword-wielding mummy Ginzu, and baby genius Baby Head piloting a mech walker — each with distinct reach, speed and special attacks.

It plays like Final Fight turned up to eleven: bigger crowds, jet-ski and subway stages, rideable mechs, and enemies that include ninjas, mutants and cyber-brutes. The four-player cabinet support was the headline feature, and it remains one of the best four-player co-op beat 'em ups on CPS-1.

  • Four playable characters with very different playstyles
  • Up to four players in simultaneous co-op
  • Vehicle sections and rideable mech power-ups
  • Fast, crowd-heavy CPS-1 brawling with big sprites

Tips & Strategy

Baby Head controls space, not damage

The mech-walking baby's stomp attacks lock down crowds but deal modest damage. Play him as area control in four-player games, letting the sword-wielding Ginzu mop up what you knock down.

Ginzu's dash slash pierces lines

Ginzu's forward dash attack passes through multiple enemies, making him the best answer to the game's frequent wall-to-wall crowds. Dash through, turn, and repeat rather than stopping to combo in place.

Grab weapons early and keep them

Guns and energy weapons dropped by enemies clear bosses quickly. Weapon pickups persist until you are hit, so play defensively while armed rather than trading blows.

In four-player games, claim a lane

With four players the screen fills with both friends and enemies. Agree on left/right/top/bottom lanes at the start of each stage — overlap is what causes accidental hits and wasted specials.
