About This Game
Rolling Thunder is Namco's spy-action run and gun: you are Albatross, an agent of the Rolling Thunder task force, working through the hideouts of the masked Gewalt organization to rescue a fellow agent. Every level is a two-floor maze of doors, and that vertical split is the game's whole personality.
The high road and the low road mean something here: enemies come from doors on both levels, and switching floors mid-firefight is a genuine tactical move, not decoration. Doors are the other system - some hide enemies, some hide bullets, and kicking open the right one at the right time is the difference between a stocked agent and a dead one. You die in one hit, but every checkpoint is close and every level has a fixed, learnable script of spawns. The pistol runs dry fast and the machine gun ammo is scarce, which makes Rolling Thunder one of the earliest shooters where ammunition management mattered as much as aim. It is tense, stylish, and completely fair once you accept that memorisation is the intended skill.
- Two-floor stage design with real tactical floor switching
- Doors that hide both enemies and ammo - risk/reward on every kick
- Scarce machine-gun ammo in a one-hit-death shooter
- Fixed spawn scripts that reward route memorisation

Tips & Strategy
Kick ammo doors first
Doors hold either bullets or enemies, and you learn which is which per level. When unsure, take the bullet - one hit kills.
Use the floor switch defensively
Dropping to the lower level mid-spread breaks enemy aim lines. It is a dodge as much as a route choice.
Machine gun: burst discipline
The machine gun melts bosses but empties instantly. Short bursts on normal enemies, full commitment only on boss phases.
Learn the checkpoint, not the level
Deaths reset to fixed checkpoints. Practising the two or three hardest checkpoints is faster than grinding whole levels.
