About This Game

Known in China as 三国志2 and in the West as Warriors of Fate, this is Capcom's Romance of the Three Kingdoms brawler. Five of Liu Bei's generals are playable — Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Huang Zhong and Wei Yan — each with signature moves drawn from the novel, fighting Cao Cao's armies from the Yellow Turban Rebellion to the Battle of Red Cliffs.

Its combat is deeper than the average CPS-1 brawler: grabs, throws, mounted sections, horse-riding bosses, and environmental executions (toss a soldier into a fire or off a cliff for bonus points) gave it real staying power in Asian arcades, where it remained a fixture long after newer hardware arrived.

  • Five playable Three Kingdoms generals with distinct movesets
  • Grab, throw and environmental-kill mechanics
  • Mounted combat against horse-riding officers
  • Story spanning the novel's most famous battles up to Red Cliffs

Tips & Strategy

Throws into hazards are free points

Many stages place fire pits, cliffs and water at the edges. Grabbing a soldier and hurling them into the hazard kills instantly and scores better than a combo — and clears one more body from the crowd.

Zhang Fei's grab chain shreds officers

Zhang Fei can grab and repeatedly slam an enemy without them escaping. Against named officers this is the most reliable damage in the game; the other generals should cover him while he works.

Dismount before you dismount you

On horseback you hit harder and move faster, but horseback bosses will knock you off with a single heavy swing. Dismount for officer duels and keep the horse for crowd stages.

Co-op: generals split lanes by reach

Guan Yu and Zhao Yun have long weapons and should hold the middle, while the short-range fighters sweep behind. This prevents the classic three-player pile-up where everyone hits the same two soldiers.
