Monster Hunter: World Player Count Doubles on Steam

Apr 16, 2026 · VaultGames Editorial · Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World saw an unexpected resurgence on Steam in April 2026, with concurrent players roughly doubling from a stable baseline of about 17,000 to a peak of more than 36,000 within a couple of weeks. The spike was pronounced enough that players took to community forums asking what had caused it.

The consensus answers were straightforward: deep discounts that put the base game below $10, and the fact that many players consider World better optimised on PC than its successor. Monster Hunter Wilds was widely praised for its content but criticised for PC performance, making World the natural alternative for hunters waiting on further Wilds updates.

World remains available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the Iceborne expansion providing Master Rank quests, new monsters and additional endgame content.
