About This Game
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! is a boxing game built as a puzzle. You are Little Mac, a 107-pound underdog climbing from the Minor Circuit to a title fight against Mike Tyson himself, and every opponent is a pattern to be read rather than a health bar to be drained.
Each boxer telegraphs his attacks with a frame or two of animation, and the entire game is about blinking at the right moment. Between fights you get training montages, Doc Louis's advice, and a cast of caricatures - Bald Bull, Piston Honda, Don Flamenco, Super Macho Man - with memorably absurd personalities. Its Star Meter and KO punch give you one gamble per fight, which is exactly enough to make the design feel tight rather than punishing.
- Twelve opponents, each a memorisable pattern rather than a damage race
- Star Meter uppercut - land a well-timed punch to bank a KO punch
- Circuit structure from Minor Circuit up to Mike Tyson
- Battery-saved records and a password system

Tips & Strategy
Learn the tell, not the timing
Every punch is preceded by a specific animation. React to the animation rather than counting in your head - counting fails the moment an opponent speeds up.
Bank your stars, spend them once
You can hold three stars at once but you only get one KO punch per fight. Save it for the round where an opponent is at low health.
Dodge before you punch
Punching out of a dodge animation leaves you open. Settle into the neutral stance first, then throw.
Bald Bull's charge is the tutorial boss
His Bull Charge is the first attack you must dodge rather than block. Master it and Super Macho Man becomes far less intimidating.
